Road to 5 million: picking a problem (part 2)

Context

The only way to live life freely is to either become rich, or to become poor. I choose to be rich. For that I need to make money, and to make money I need to build a business. Picking a problem is the first step.

Passion-first approach

Many ways to find problems, but the catch here is this: you have to be passionate about it. Because, without passion, there are nuances that you will not understand, and the hard times will be unbearable, and, in the long run, you will end up quitting.

business is about solving existing problems
business is about solving existing problems

It's not that hard to find a passion - just think about a thing you can talk about for hours. Really, what are you interested in?

For me that is human psychology. I can talk to you about social dynamics, dating strategies, body language, and even predict the future and circumstances of many people, based on their behavior, all day, everyday.

I once even had a psychology blog called Humans Eat People: Dynamics. So, for me, it is this.

Problem

To find a problem, you need to go and have a look at existing social media communities. Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, etc. What problems do people have?

I personally frequent Reddit /r/Lietuva and /r/Lithuania so, by being a member there, I noticed a trend. A lot of people write posts about not having friends or feeling lonely due to shyness, anxiety and various other reasons but, currently, the those who offer answers, via comments, do not have a straightforward solution for this.

I want to solve this problem for them.

Brainstorming ideas

So how does one solve loneliness in Lithuania? Here's some ideas I've brainstormed:

I could become a psychologist, but that isn't scalable in the long-term. Years to get a degree? No way man. And there is no way this idea could make me 5 million (read first part if you don't understand why that's the goal).

I could write a book on how to get friends, but we already have How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie. It would be my second book, so there would be some trust in me as an author. A decent idea, just not a million dollar idea, in my opinion.

What about a rental girlfriend agency? It is well received in Asia, pretty scalable, but would be hard to market because people would associate it with prostitution in one way or another, due to the conservative nature here. This idea is inspiring.

What about a rental friend platform in Lithuania? Yes, this seems like something I could get behind. After more research, here's where we are at:

Can this business generate 5 million? Yes.

Can this business be boostrapped (paid for) and managed by one person? Heck yes. This is business makes CENTS.

So that's settled, I am starting this project. It might take me years to get there, but I will document my journey until I either sell the business, die, or give up on the idea if it does not work.

What if you fail?

Nothing happens.

We both got one life and unlimited tries to make the world a better place (and become rich in the process). If I fail, I will write about it, and then move on to the next idea just, this time, with more experience.

Stay tuned.
